Big Bike Sunday

Worthing had its own little bike festival last Sunday. We actually got some of the road closed and for 3 hours we could enjoy riding up and down without any cars to worry about.

Other than the fun element, the main reason for the event was to get signatures for supporting 20sPlenty which is set to be introduced soon but I don’t know when yet. For more pictures, click here.

My weekends are cycling orientated but not so much on the bike. I sell bikes Saturdays and with the Big Bike Sunday, WECC 125 Sportive next week, the Southern Sportive the following week and then the MaXx Exposure my riding time is some what reduced (there are still places available on all of these events).

Luckily we had a bank holiday and I, at last, got out with Baylis. This was his last ride before his operation. Gavin has broken his anterior cruciate ligament but rather than give up his very active life he turned to the bike and rides  sportives almost every weekend and regularly ride up to 200 miles per week.

He  suggested a hilly ride with over 100o metres climbing – sounded good to me! I had a great ride and even though Gavin couldn’t get full power and is obviously injured it still felt good to be blasting up the hills.

Here is the ride. I set the lap counter for the two big hills so Ditchling is lap 2 and the Steyning Bostal lap 6. I didn’t realise how similar they were. I’ve not broken any records but I do now have a time to beat and beat and continue beating.
